President’s Turn 25-12: More Updates and a holiday ornament turning event at JCH

NMWT members,

This month’s board meeting will be held on the 24th instead of the 26th (the normal 10 days prior to the club meeting) as the 26th is the night before Thanksgiving.  So, if anyone wants to receive the meeting access data, please be aware of that change.

I had a meeting with Dennis to work out logistics of the NMWoodturners.org domain migration from Bluehost to Squarespace. We have temporarily obtained the NMWoodturners.com domain (at no cost for the first year) so you can now access the new website via the NMWoodturners.com URL. Ultimately, the NMWoodturners.org URL will connect to the new website. We do not currently have a firm plan regarding the NMWoodturners.com domain as it is currently being used to access our shared file space which is hosted using Google Workspace.

I have not made much progress on the new website’s content this month as I have been working on the shared file space, email addresses, and working on the membership database. I will need to get together with Scott to see what his normal operations are so that I can build the interfaces needed to efficiently update the database. I am also awaiting a pricelist and images to complete the apparel store. Please take a look at what is currently in place and provide me with your feedback. I really want this to be a reflection on the club membership and not just what I think the site should be.

I have requested that JCH allow us to host the holiday ornament turning event on December 13th. I do not yet have confirmation, but I anticipate that they will be able to accommodate us on that date. I will put out an announcement to the full membership once I have confirmation from Mike Hill. So, if you are willing to lead a tutorial for a specific type of ornament, please give me a brief description or write-up.

And finally, just a reminder that the annual club meeting and officer elections will be held at the December 6th meeting. We will also vote on the presentation topics for 2026, and of course, we will hold the annual gift exchange. As a result, there will not be an instant gallery, nor will there be a raffle.
