President’s Turn 26-04
Winter is now behind us, but if the current heat wave is any indication, we are skipping spring and are heading directly into summer. I guess I need to get into the shop and see if I can impose any order there before it gets too hot to work. For the April demonstration, our past president and vice-president will team up to present pyrography and power carving. I do not yet have any information regarding a possible JCH turning event for April. Hopefully, we can address that at the board meeting and make an announcement at the April meeting.
The new website has been updated to include the workshops that will be offered by Emily Ford starting June 7th. Currently June 7th, 8th, and 9th are available on the website, and we have the option of adding a fourth workshop on June 10th if demand is sufficient. The session on June 9th is being offered as a Women in Turning session (women only) with the condition that they sell out the session. At the time of this writing, only one seat remains available, so I think it is very likely to sell out. The cost is $150.00 on the website, but this does not include materials cost as we do not yet know what blanks will be needed, and therefore, we cannot estimate cost. We will endeavor to keep this cost to a minimum.
The March JCH turning event was actually held on February 28th in order to accommodate Hy’s schedule. In addition to learning basic lathe maintenance tasks, the lessons learned were applied to the club’s six Laguna 1216 lathes. Much improvement to the smoothness of operation. Additionally, we put together a new 2x4x6 shelving unit to replace the decrepit unit that was brought over from the Montgomery storage unit. Thank Michael for assembly and Bert for organizing and filtering the “stuff” that was previously stored in the old storage unit.
That’s it for now. Hope to see you at the April 4th meeting.
Mark
