President’s Turn 26-05

Not being one that likes to wait until the last minute, I would like to start the process of lining up members that may be interested in serving the NMWT membership as officers, board members, or committee members. At the April board meeting, I will be surveying the current board to see what positions may soon need refilling, but you should not wait until someone leaves before getting involved. Our current process unfortunately results in a lack of information exchange from year to year. I would prefer an approach that employs more of a side-by-side training period. Another advantage of this approach is the work can be divided between more people.

Please reach out to me, Tom Durgin, or any member of the board if you have any questions about what serving on the board entails. Even if a position is not vacating, we can put your expertise as an alternate or committee member.

Upcoming events: At the May club meeting on May 2nd, Dennis Cahill will present all you ever wanted to know about abrasives. And then on May 9th, NMWT will hold its first JCH Pens for Troops turn-a-thon (details available in a separate article). On June 6th, we will host Emily Ford who will demonstrate turning twig pots, captured ring baby rattles, and hollowed ornaments. She will offer workshops for the same projects on June 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th. The JCH turning event on June 13th has not been determined yet. And we will once again supply a display for the International District Library. This display will be in place during the months of August and September. Please contact Larry Linford if you have pieces you would like to display. Remember that the State Fair also occurs in this timeframe, so don’t submit pieces to the library display that you would like to enter into the state fair.

Hope to see you on May 2nd,

Mark
