President’s Turn 26-06

The June 6th NMWT meeting will host Emily Ford from Utah, our professional demonstrator for 2026. She will offer four workshops on Sunday, June 7th through Wednesday, June 10th. At the time of this writing, six of the eight possible seats have been reserved for the Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday sessions. There are four open seats remaining for the Wednesday session. To sign up for one of the remaining seats, please sign up at https://nmwoodturners.com/emily-ford. If cost is preventing you from signing up for a workshop, remember that the Red Hollenback scholarship fund is available which will reimburse you for half of the $150.00 registration fee. To apply just reach out to me requesting the reimbursement.

We have now obtained the wood blanks for the three projects that Emily will demonstrate. We obtained slabs from DendroTechnology in Corrales (approximately 90 board feet) and processed them into nine blanks per participant, or 198 blanks plus some spares. We still have additional wood, should we need to create additional blanks. I would like to thank Rick Thayer for giving us a substantial discount on the source slabs.

For those who have reserved seats for the workshops, the cost of the blanks will be $25.00, which is payable at the workshop, or at the NMWT meeting. Please obtain a receipt from Dave if paying via credit card at the club meeting and bring that with you to the workshop.

The urn that Ray Davis, Bill Kalb and I made for Bill Zerby has been delivered to Ann Zerby, and I would expect that by now it is housing Bill’s remains. His life celebration will take place at 10:00 am on May 30th at Heights Christian Church, 6935 Comanche NE, ABQ, NM with a reception afterwards.

And we produced 28 pens for the Pens for Troops at the JCH turn-a-thon on May 9th.

Hope to see you at the June 6th meeting,

Mark
